, food allergy affects 1 in every 13 children (under 18 years of age) in the U.S and the rate increased approximately 50% between 1997 and 2011. Allergy and sensitivities can be deadly and also associated with more server conditions such as asthma, autism spectrum disorders and autoimmune disorders. Although the cause of these conditions is still unknown, many recent studies have pointed to the malfunction of neuroendocrine control of the immune functions. This lecture reviews most recent biomedical findings and introduces holistic perspective to allergy and sensitivities. The lecture also discusses integrative approach to allergy and sensitivities with various natural modalities such as Chinese medicine, homeopathy, allergy desensitization, nutritional supplementation and dietary changes.
