In order to monitor the transient traveling wave and lighting invasion wave through the HVDC transmission line, this paper designed a transient fault monitoring device for ±500 kV DC transmission line, including suitable new power supply system, the high frequency sensor, data collecting and transmission unit. Based on the design, the prototype of the device is used and the lighting waveform data is monitored and showed its validity and reliability.
